Roy trained as a teacher at Padgate College near Warrington studying
Education, Maths and Physics. After gaining his CertEd he taught
Maths and Science at Hope Hall Secondary School, Salford. Following
his interest in Youth Work he moved to Andover to manage the
Youth Wing at the, then, London Road Schools. He returned to
full-time teaching at The Clere School Burghclere, near Newbury
as Head of Science, teaching General Science and Physics. During
this time he studied with the Open University - Education & Electronics
- building a computer in a drawer (128 bytes RAM!) to gain his
degree. Whilst at the Clere, Roy set up a computer room and instigated
Computer Studies.
Later Roy obtained a post at Southampton University
as Manager of a central government project; the National Electronics
and Microtechnology Education Centre (NEMEC), training serving
teachers. When government pulled the financial plug on NEMEC
Roy joined Hampshire County Council as a full-time Advisor and
Trainer with the Hampshire Microtechnology Centre (HMTC); again
providing in-service training for teachers, and gaining RSA Diplomas
in Training teachers of Primary and Secondary schools. During
his time with HMTC Roy joined Edexcel as a visiting marker, assessor and
moderator of ICT examinations at GCSE level.
Cut-backs forced Roy to obtain employment with a computer manufacturer in Basingstoke, as their Education Advisor. Roy now works from home as a visiting home tutor, an independant education advisor, part-time
supply teacher, adult trainer, part-time solicitor's outside clerk, examinations invigilator and web-site builder. He studies
in his spare time and also indulges his passion for classic cars.
